About the Program

""

A diverse and culturally rich student body is essential for success in academic institutions. It is no longer appropriate to consider under-representation as merely a social problem or a moral imperative. Rather, it is now an economic problem and a national imperative. A diverse workforce mirrors our global society.

The Emerging Ethnic Engineers (E3) Program is a comprehensive, nationally respected program which seeks to increase the number of African-American, Latino/a, and Native American students in the College of Engineering while helping such students achieve excellence in college and beyond. The program includes several pre-college outreach programs, as well as campus-wide recruitment and retention activities.

Through the extensive efforts of E3, the UC College of Engineering boasts an overall graduation rate of ethnic engineering students that is 13% higher than the national average and was recently ranked in the top 50 institutions nationally for number of African-American engineering graduates.
